By Far the BEST Genealogy program for the Pocket
PC!! - This program has far exceeded my expectations in content and support.
Being able to sync my entire Family Tree with Legacy 5.0 has been awesome. I
always have ALL of my information even ALL of my NOTES!!! I just can't say
enough about this program. Support has also gone above and beyond the call of
duty!!!! When my house burned and I lost my computer I had all of my data on the
PPC and none of it was lost. The support team worked personally with me to help
restore my data back to a new desktop program. THANK YOU!!. -

Excellent well supported versatile comprehensive
program - This is one of the best supported Pocket PC Programs available. It is
a comprehensive and thorough database which is full of features. Very highly
recommended for anyone interested in a portable program -

Leave your laptop at home - I am now able to leave
my Laptop at home, it links direct to my Desktop/Laptop genealogy program. I
have 3 family databases of 22,000, 7800 and 6400 individuals all on the same
Pocket PC. You can search by name or location, enter or edit data, link or
unlink, just like my big desktop program. It is very user friendly simple and
powerful. But the best part is the support. It is quick (sometimes I
receive an E-mail from Northern Hills within 30 minutes) and they always resolve
the problem. They offer free updates (I have had mine for 18 months, updates are
still free). Absolutely the best genealogy program for handhelds, no contest. -

An excellent programme with great support - This
is well worth the investment for the family historian on the move. It is a truly
excellent programme only surpassed by the support and regular free updates that
the developer of Pocket Genealogist provides through his webpage and list.
Highly recommended. - Russell Carter, New Zealand (from
Handango, rating 5 of 5)
An excellent genealogy program for the Pocket PC -
I have a 9200 person database on my Toshiba E335 and it works great. All of my
records, including sources and notes are with me wherever I go, without the
paperwork or lugging a notebook PC around with me. I don't have to worry about
someone walking off with my notebook when I'm researching. I now have my PC in
my pocket. - George Madden, United States (from Handango,
rating 5 of 5)
Well supported, simple to use, powerful program.
It's fun! - This is simply a great program. It is powerful. It allows me to have
access to my data on over 4,000 individuals anytime, anywhere. It supports all
sorts of events (i.e. birth, death, census) and supporting documentation of my
data. I use mine in conjunction with TMG. It is easy to use and it gets
great support. The program keeps getting better, with new bells and whistles
being added. I recommend it!. - Jeff Swarts, United States

Very well thought out program and easy to use - I
have been using the Pocket Genealogist - "Advanced" for 3 or 4 years. The
program is a pleasure to use. It lets me have all of my family history at my
finger tips anytime and anyplace. The developer has been working very hard to
include user feedback into the program. The program, I believe, at this time has
everything I need for doing my research remotely. People have been very
impressed when I show them how "Pocket Genealogist" works. -

Great program; outstanding support - This product
is the most used software application on my pocket pc. I have a data base of
over 10,000 names -- this program has no problem with this enormous database.
Incredibly convenient to have all my data available while traveling, whether for
genealogy research or otherwise, without schlepping a series of 3 ring binders
or even a laptop. I recommend purchasing the Advanced version so all features
and updates are available. The support for this program is unmatched -- answers
to questions are always rapid and helpful. - Shanna Kurth,
United States (from Handango, rating 5 of 5)
The best piece of software on my PDA - This is a
really useful program. Very well supported. Does everything I need it to
do and more. I have been using it now for about eighteen months and could
not be without it, IT'S BRILLIANT. - Martin Lee Briggs,
United Kingdom (from Handango, rating 5 of 5)
Program performs flawlessly - I have downloaded
and currently use this program. I assembled a Gedcom to "torture test" the
software (56,000 approx ancestors), and it accepted all of them. I recommend it
to anyone who wants the ability to take their genealogy work with them on the
road. I have taken mine into places where pens/pencils are not permitted, and
have been admitted to places where lap tops are not permitted. -

Pocket Genealogist Fantastic Mobile Tool! - I have
been using the advanced version of Pocket Genealogist for about 8 weeks and
prior to that had a trial for 3 weeks. The version I was using was v2.72 but
this was upgraded f.o.c last week to v2.80. The programme is very
intuitive to use and the new version includes a simple search function and
family tree view, which makes it very easy to show others of family
relationships. I use Pocket Genealogist as the "mobile version' of Ancestrial
Family tree. I download my latest Gedcoms to it before I go off to libraries,
cemeteries etc. where I can compare entries and update or add new entries on the
fly. I believe Pocket Genealogist is a fantastic tool and it is supported by the
most helpful and open minded IT development team that I have come across from
either a personal or business perspective. I thoroughly recommend this
product to any potential users. - Jon Broadbent, United
Kingdom (from Handango, rating 5 of 5)
It's great to have ALL my data with me (including
notes and sources)! - I use The Master Genealogist, and all of my data transfers
into Pocket Genealogist. It's so handy to have it with me when I find myself
with time to research, or to check a name that someone mentions in conversation.
Well done! - Birdie Holsclaw, United States (from Handango,
rating 5 of 5)
Does exactly what I want it to do - Software is
good and its great to have data handy when in the reference rooms. Easier than a
PC and less obtrusive. - Roger Woods, United Kingdom (from
Handango, rating 5 of 5)
The easiest way to carry your genealogy files with
you - Pocket Genealogist is the best product developed for the Pocket PC. Pocket
Genealogist will synchronize directly with Legacy Family Tree. You can also use
Genbridge to synchronize with TMG. Pocket Genealogist even works with GEDCOM.
There's no better way to carry your genealogy with you. No more lugging your
laptop with you. Do your research, enter your information in your pocket pc.
Synchronize with your desktop program. - Ron Bernier,
United States (from Handango. rating 5 of 5)
Top quality mobile genealogy s/w with superb
support - Ideal package for taking all your family tree data with you on
research trips. It integrates perfectly with my desktop system (Legacy) and is
extremely flexible in use. The descendant and ancestor trees as an addition to
the 3 generation display make navigation around your tree so simple. But
of special mention is the marvelous support, and the email group allowing the
sharing of ideas - Jack Earnshaw, England (from Handango,
rating 5 of 5)
Great program with excellent support - I really
enjoy Pocket Genealogist. The program is easy to use and has plenty of options.
The program is continually enhanced and developers consider the comments of the
users. The install was easy and there is an active mailing list to answer any
questions. - Patrice Schadt, United States (from Handango,
rating 5 of 5)
A very easy program to use - I have been using the
Pocket Genealogist for 2 1/2 years now on a Casio E-125. I have had no problems
updating the program or data. The pocket pc goes everywhere and I never have to
try and recall any information, at a family get-together or doing research. No
more lugging big note books or pc's around. The support is terrific. -
Bob Huntley, United States (from Handango, rating 5 of 5)
Wonderful program - Great program and support. It
has been fun to go to gen meetings and conferences, and have the information at
my fingertips, no heavy notebooks, files, or laptops (hardly can believe I said
THAT...remember when?). - Priscilla Schaffer, United
States (from Handango, rating 5 of 5)
I've just been using Pocket Genealogist for a few
weeks and am already convinced of its incredible research value. It allows me to
take my complete family history database with me wherever I go. No more waiting
for my laptop to boot up at the library and no need to chain my computer to the
library table while I pick up a book in the stacks. I just carry my database
around in my pocket, turn it on for a quick look-up, and stick it back in my
pocket. To be honest with you... I'm not really interested in the ability to
enter data in the field, even though version 2.0 (when it is released) will
apparently allow that. (Editor Note: Data entry was
available on August 2nd, 2003) I'd rather spend my time in the library researching and
save the data entry for later. It's the "instant on" and the extreme
portability which have sold me. The "find location" tool (which allows
you to see the list of events that occurred in a specific location) is a great
feature. (When you've finally got that Walworth County book in your hands...
just what names are there that you should be checking in the index?) As
far as I can tell, everything
transferred over complete. The software is straightforward, easy to navigate,
and takes about 10 minutes of putzing to get down pat. One advantage of a
pocket genealogy program that I hadn't thought about until I fell into the habit
of using it is the fact that, when I get back home, I can park my handheld in
it's cradle right next to my computer and use it as a "second window"
on my database. If I'm in the middle of entering information on one of my
ancestors on my main computer, I often use Pocket Genealogist on the side as a
fact-checking look-up tool. I don't have to exit what I'm doing to check
something out. Hand-held genealogy databases are a good concept in general...
and Pocket Genealogist is an elegantly executed product. --

I have a copy of Pocket Genealogist on my HP
Jornada 548 Pocket PC. I have loaded it with my family tree which is the product
of some years of patient collecting of information from relatives and from
documentary sources. This database contains about 6000 names at present. When
the data was tied to a PC I could, at a push, carry it around in a Notebook PC
but the Pocket PC is infinitely more convenient. I tried one or two other
genealogical programs for the Pocket PC at first but had no luck with them.
Pocket Genealogist is a very polished piece of software. Every part of the
process, from downloading the software to transferring a GEDCOM version of my
family tree into it went perfectly and the interface on the Pocket PC is so
instantly intuitive that the (excellent) instructions are almost redundant. I
look forward to being able to annotate and add to the data when this facility is
added to Pocket Genealogist (Editor Note: Data entry was
available on August 2nd, 2003) but being able to do so will not be without its
problems. I only want to have one definitive version of my family tree file and
that must remain on the desktop PC. If I add information to the Pocket version
how will I transfer it back to the PC version? No doubt Northern Hills Software
will work this out. -- David Gibbon, United Kingdom
I've been using Pocket Genealogist now for about a
month on my Jornada 690. When I first started using it, I thought it may
take awhile to get used to the interface and to my surprise it took only one try
to get it right. A few minutes tooling around with the stylus made me aware of
all the elements in the program, and I was totally delighted. I just
finished looked at your advance notes on the new Version, and I can hardly
wait! I take a small pocket computer to the library, and all the
information is right at my fingertips. If I run across an ancestor which may or
may not fit in with my own tree, I can access the data right there without
wondering why didn't I bring more hard copies of family group sheets. The
main advantage is that I can spot mistakes in my Family Tree easily and when I
get home, I can sync with my PC and correct them. When the new Version comes
out, I can correct entries right at the library, and then paste them in my PC
when I get home. It sure beats copying into notebooks, retyping them on
the PC, and then posting them back into my Pocket Genealogist. I love the way
Pocket Genealogist works, and I think you have a real winner here. --

I always knew that Pocket Genealogist was a good
program which only got better with each release. But one of the most important
hallmarks of a great program is the support given by the Company. I can
say without hesitation that the support given by Northern Hills is timely,
helpful, and nothing short of fantastic. I had a problem with the program and my Jornada 690, and Kevin worked with me constantly until the program was
operating. The support given is an indication about how much he cares about his
product and his customers. A two thumbs up on all
levels. -- Florence Nelson-Smith, Canada
Wow what a great program. I only got the PDA
(Compaq 3635) on Saturday and downloaded your Pocket Genealogist tonight.
It is so easy to load and use I am amazed!! Your instructions are wonderful and
clear as to what to do and what to expect. I can add nothing at this time
to what is a great process.. -- Sharon Knight, United
States
I
first became aware of Pocket Genealogist, a genealogy software program for use
on "pocket computers", like the iPaq3600 series, by reading Eastman's
on-line genealogy news letter. I was unhappy with my choices of carrying data.
Hard copy is heavy, difficult to search and impossible to keep up to
date! The laptops are awkward and
risky to leave unattended. A
combination of the iPaqH3635 and "Pocket Genealogist" by Northern
Hills Software seemed to fit like "Peaches and Cream" -- they do!
We, Dorothy and I, carry 1500 or so of our
individual records in our pocket complete with notes, sources, vital statistics
and addresses! All available
instantly at the flick of a stylus! I
also use it to refer to as I look for data on the internet.
It's quick and easy. I
coordinate the data with the laptop from time to time.
With the new version of
Pocket Genealogist I can enter data in the pocket unit and then into the laptop
- more than I ever expected. My
only problem is that Dorothy also wants
to use the system. --

I recently stopped by a local funeral home to look
up one burial. They told me to just sit down with the record books, showed me
where the copier was and gave me access to both their records and a closed
funeral home they had adopted the records for. Since I had by Jornada with
Pocket Genealogist along with me I was able to obtain records for over 20
funerals for relatives because I could determine the death dates. Some I didn't
even know had been buried from that parlor! -- Bob Berg,
United States
